about
recorded in late 1993. i used to jam on different instruments in my bedroom for hours on end. had several riffs that i enjoyed goofing on for awhile. toward the end when i started getting fatigued, slumped in a chair, plunking around on the bass while holding it in a lazy non-useful manner (like with it upright against my chest, my head right next to the neck...maybe my chin resting in the curvature of the body with my arm playing notes above my head), i used to mess around with this one. came up with a melody and finally got around to recording it on my roommate's 4 track. utilized a phaser effect pedal and a co-worker who played flute.
regarding this being the unofficial theme to the film KLUTE, i have neither seen the movie nor known anything about it. i just heard the title when i was a kid and got it stuck in my head. sounded like the most absurd name to me. imagined that the movie was either sci fi or about mental illness. i've thought about the name KLUTE once a month for over 30 years. finally google searched it today. donald sutherland played detective klute who solicits the help of a prostitute (jane fonda) to find a killer.
